Catch the latest version of this popular Grand Canyon presentation at Canoecopia 2007 on Saturday, March 10th and Sunday March 11th in Madison, Wisconsin. The slideshow, Grand Canyon Update: Literature, Lottery, and Litigation, will be presented by Tom Martin, Co-Director of River Runners for Wilderness. The Saturday presentation will be at 3:30pm and the Sunday presentation at 1:30pm, both in the Bear Room inside the Alliant Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The annual Canoecopia event, billed as the "World's Largest Paddlesport Expo," will run March 9th - 11th, 2007.
Tom will speak about his new river runner's hiking guide, Day Hikes from the River, (Third Edition, Vishnu Temple Press) along with the new waterproof river guide he co-authored with Duwain Whitis, Guide to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, (Vishnu Temple Press). He will review how the new Grand Canyon lottery is (or is not) working, including information on how to apply for the new Grand Canyon river lottery and maximize your chances of success. Tom will also provide an update on the River Runners for Wilderness litigation against the new river plan for the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park.
Tom Martin has been hiking in Grand Canyon from river rafting trips since 1969. He has participated on scientific rafting trips as a field technician, worked as a commercial river guide and participated in non-commercial rafting trips as a permit holder. Tom co-founded the Grand Canyon Private Boaters Association, the Grand Canyon Hikers and Backpackers Association, and presently serves as Co-Director of River Runners for Wilderness. He currently works as a physical therapist at the Grand Canyon Clinic at the South Rim.
