The 5th and 6th meetings in a series of 7 Grand Canyon National Park's Colorado River Management Plan open houses will be held in Arizona over the next 2 weeks. The Flagstaff meeting begins tomorrow, Monday, November 22nd, 2004, at the Coconino Community College, Administration Building - Commons Area, 2800 S. Lone Tree Rd., from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. For map see: www.coconino.edu/campuses/lonetree.html. The Phoenix meeting will be Tuesday, November 30th, at Glendale Community College, Student Lounge. 6000 W. Olive Avenue, Glendale, also from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The map may be viewed at: www.gc.maricopa.edu/map/.
These gatherings are a great opportunity for Arizona boaters to learn more about the DEIS through the posters, informational handouts and questions to park staff about the plan. If you are ready to do so, you may also make comments about the plan by several methods. Additionally, this is a great opportunity to ask representatives of River Runners for Wilderness, the Sierra Club and other organizations working hard on Grand Canyon issues questions about wilderness and access, and to be counted as members of the interested public who take a keen interest in the outcome of the plan.
RRFW's Paddle the Plan has been a terrific success. RRFW's adult-sized "A Human Powered Wilderness, Not A Motorized Theme Park" shirts have been distributed (plenty of children's sizes still available), and dozens of your comments have been transferred to paddles to give to park representatives. Wear your shirt at the meeting and show your support for full wilderness management of the river!
