A fire swept through the historic Marble Canyon Lodge in the early morning hours of June 19, 2013. The fire completely destroyed the dining hall and kitchen, a small but well stocked sporting goods and book store, along with the building's office.
The dining hall was a landmark for Grand Canyon river runners since the Lodge is near Lee’s Ferry, AZ, the departure point for Grand Canyon river trips.
Only the main Lodge building was destroyed in the fire. Buildings not involved in the fire included a gas station, post office and Laundromat to the west and a historic gas station and hotel rooms just to the east of the Lodge. No structures on the south side of Highway 89 A, adjacent to a small runway, were involved.
According to the Coconino County Sherriff’s Department, there were no injuries.
